Hi all,

Just taking my new VidOn box for a spin but noticed that every app that I'm running only renders at 720p and then is upscaled to 1080p. This is frustrating as the GPU should be more than capable of rendering 1080p output. Everything from Antutu to Epic Citadel are reporting rendering at 1280x720. Even YouTube won't allow video streams higher than 720p. This means that everything is blurrier than it should be.

I've checked all my settings and my settings are correctly set for 1080p 60Hz output,

I've seen plenty of Android devices natively output 1080p (without upscaling) so is this a bug in the firmware?

Only UI render in 720P, When you play a fullHD video, you will see true fullhd on your TV.

So is there any way to force true 1080p output for the box for apps?

It's disappointing as YouTube won't play 1080p videos, even though the chipset can.

According to the VidOn.me guys there is a hardware limitation in how the UI is rendered that forces them to use 720p and then upscale.  But, it doesn't impact the playback of DVDs and Blu-rays using the VidOn.me player.

- Video system : Sharp 80" 3D TV, Pioneer Elite VSX-70, Definitive Audio Speakers, 40+ TB (hardware RAID 5) Linux server for Blu-ray and DVD ISOs.

- Network : (2x) HP 3400cl switches, HP 1810-24G, Cisco ASA 5520 router/firewall, Aerohive wireless APs

Thanks. I'm going to try and force 1080p via ADB and see how that goes. Will let you know how I go.

I read the other thread. I just want to know how to get apps and YouTube running at 1080p. If ADB can't handle it, there must be another solution.

There is no hardware limitation , there is a software limitation ( kernel , config.fex , and display driver configuration )

The only thing showing true 1080p is the video overlay using vmc , vidon xbmc , if the player used is vidon modded player , and tvdvideo ( allwinner video player )

Any other app will run using the resolution set at boot ( 1280 x 720 pixels )

Can someone from VidOn clarify a true 1080p interface can be added as an option?

The UI resolution is locked at 720p, we cannot change it, because this SDK was provided by Allwinner.
But the picture is the true 1080p when you play a 1080p movie.
