I'm trying to get Plex working on my Vidon box but have an audio issue. When playing MKV files I get perfect video but no audio. I have pass through enabled on the Vidonbox and direct play enabled in Plex. I get audio using Vidon XBMC but video stutters but that's another story. My software version are in my profile. The media info for the file is below. The vidon box HDMI output is connected to a Yamaha RX-A820 receiver.

The audio is AC3 which is supported by the vidonbox. It is also supported by my receiver but still no audio.

I would appreciate any advice to help resolve this. Cheers.

Direct Play

Media can be Direct Played on a device if the source media is compatible with the client's playback capabilities, meaning that the source media:

  • Is stored in a compatible file container
  • Is encoded in a compatible bitrate
  • Is encoded with compatible codecs
  • Is a compatible resolution

Basically, the file is 100% compatible with your device. To find these requirements for your device, you should consult your device's documentation.

When a media item is Direct Played on an App, the file is sent directly to the device without being changed.

Note: Subtitles can introduce a wrinkle here sometimes. Even if a file's audio, video, and container are all compatible with a Plex App, if a subtitle stream is selected and is not compatible with the Plex App, then the Server will "burn in" the subtitle text within the video. This requires a full transcode of the video stream.

This works when using the Kodi based VidonXBMC which supports the comment made by trigu75.
