Hi all,
I'm looking at buying the vidon box, appears to be the only Android box that has dtshd passthrough working through xbmc

Couple of quick questions:
1. When will kodi 14 be available on vidon xbmc
2. Can you install aeon nox skin
3. Can you install apps like showbox
4. After the 1 year membership is up regarding passthrough is it just hd audio that stops working or all audio to receive
5. Is h265 supported by hardware so once kodi 14 is released they will work

Thanks again,
Ciaran

Hey Ciaran75,

1. We are currently working on optimizing our Gotham version of XBMC and although we of course plan to upgrade in the future, it is not on our 'to-do list' just yet.

2. I have not personally tried Aeon Nox, but I had an old version of Aeon on my VidOn Box that worked just fine, so I assume Nox would work as well. We have never had problems with skins other than about 10 or so being incompatible (such as Carmichael, diffuse and droid).

3. I am not sure about Showbox - never heard of it actually; but a myriad of other apps can be installed, everything from Reddit News and Stumblr to Orbot and Dsploit have worked just fine for me.

4. Only HD Audio Passthrough will cease to function.

5. No, our current hardware does not support H265.

Hope that helps, and although I would not want to (totally) sway your purchasing opinion, VidOn Box is a great product and what makes it so good is that we have an awesome community of extremely talented and helpful people here on our forums.

Joe

PS

I am downloading Aeon Nox now and will let you know if it works.

Aeon Nox does work, but I think I still prefer confluence, it's less messy. Plus, we need to keep the stock stuff for testing purposes.

But yes, Aeon Nox is working just fine for me and is very sleek and nice looking.

Hi Joe,

thanks very much for answering my questions, am leaning towards it but have some doubts also.

Showbox is just an app that plays movies / tv shows that you install an .apk rather than from play store. I presume this is possible to install directly from .apk

I'm very tempted by the box but only thing holding me back is the lack of h265 support and only 1080 when using Vidon XBMC where everything else is 720.

I've read you can install the xbmc vidon app on any Allwinner or amlogic box and get HD sound passthrough, is this correct?

looking at Rikomagic RKM with amlogic S812, would it work on this?

thanks again,

Ciaran

Hi, ciaran75

Yes, you can install any Android app directly from the .apk file.

And We will upgrade the UI resolution to 1080p in the near future.

The VidOn XBMC can run on some chipsets of Allwinner and Amlogic, but it requires the SDK modification. See here.

Thanks wolly, great to know you'll have 1080p for everything shortly
